Shawn Jacques

Shaw joined his mom, dad and brother to complete the Jacques family on November 12th, 2006 and life became a much bigger adventure with two Jacques brothers joining forces.  From the start, Shawn has seen the world as something to be explored and is at his happiest when he is spending time outdoors.  Whether it is at the beach or in the mountains, Shawn finds peace in nature and loves hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

Besides being an outdoorsman, Shawn has a God-given gift for music.  He was a band member for many years, playing the trombone and baritone and piano.  He can hear any note, identify it and then play it. His brain and heart just speak music.  â€‹

Shawn is really close with his older brother, AJ and has been blessed to grow up next door to his grandparents and that bond is special.

Diagnosis

Shawn has a very unique diagnosis story in that his tumor was discovered through an incidental finding when he was getting an MRI for an unrelated issue during his junior year of high school.  Although Shawn had not yet begun to experience any symptoms, receiving a Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) diagnosis was the absolute worst news his family could ever have imagined. They chose, however, to face that news with hearts of gratitude and considered it a blessing to know about and start treatment on his tumor early before symptoms had started to present. DMG tumors are incredibly aggressive so they considered any head start on treatment to be an advantage.   Shawn began a course of radiation therapy and chemotherapy, traveling to Charleston for treatment.

Shawn and his family are celebrating more than one year of tumor stability and focusing on making memories together while riding as many rollercoasters as humanly possible!

Shawn's future career goals have always been to work in neuro-oncology and although he could never have imagined his path to that career would ever have included being a patient himself, he has faced his diagnosis with strength, courage and hope with his family by his side every step of the way.

Shawn is a hero and the Archer Foundation is proud to support this precious family as they journey together in hope for many more good days.
