Devin Cervantes

Devin Cervantes was born on February 15, 2023 joining him mom and big brother to complete his family.  He wakes up every day with a precious smile on his face, ready to give his mom a big kiss and play with his toys.  Devin's sweet disposition has been a light in his mom Kayla's life since the very beginning and he is always ready for an adventure, loves to play outside and chase his big brother around.  Even throughout his treatments, Devin's spirits have remained high, he continues to face each day with sweetness and joy and is always up for playtime.

Diagnosis

On November 15, 2024 at a regularly scheduled appointment, an MRI showed that the right side of Devin’s brain was infiltrated with a malignant tumor. The news was absolutely heartbreaking to his Mom, Kayla and together they began a fight that no parent ever imagines for their child, especially their toddler.

Following his diagnosis, Devin went through a very dangerous procedure to biopsy his brain. His mom worried that Devin wouldn't be the same after that surgery because of his age and how invasive it was, but she wanted even the smallest chance to get information that could lead to a treatment for her sweet boy.  Doctors shared that radiation is the preferred treatment for tumors like Devin's but would not be possible until he turned three, so two weeks after his biopsy, he underwent surgery to place his chemotherapy port and began a course of treatment immediately.

Devin's treatment journey has not been easy.  Originally from Amarillo, the family was traveling back and forth to Dallas frequently for Devin's treatments, but that quickly became financially unsustainable so they decided to relocate to Dallas full-time in order to be closer to the hospital.  Since that port placement, Devin has undergone seventeen rounds of chemo therapy with multiple types of chemotherapy drugs. He has been receiving chemotherapy weekly for the past five months. He’s also had platelet and blood transfusions. In between all of that Devin has experienced sepsis, seizures and unbelievable side effects from chemotherapy but still wakes up each day with a smile on his face and a kiss for his mom.  Kayla says, "My son is a fighter. He is brave. He is courageous. He is amazing and God's testimony."

There is no greater power on earth than the love of a mother and Kayla and Devin are walking through incredibly tough times with faithfulness and hope and the Archer Foundation is proud to stand with them as they look for joy in every day.
